Joe and Kathy's 1947 American La France Engine
American LaFrance (ALF) Series 700 Pumper S/N L3347 was purchased by the City of Ely, MN in 1947. The truck arrived in a box car in the spring of that year and was in service until June of 2010. Originally purchased as an open cab truck, the cold winters of Minnesota took their toll on the fire fighters, so an enclosed cab was purchased and a gasoline heater was also added. The truck is powered by the standard 12 cylinder ALF motor and has a 2-stage 750 GPM pump which recently passed a rigorous 4 hour pump evaluation for the ISO. Kathy and I purchased this truck on October 19, 2010 with 6,575 miles and plan on restoring her to her original condition as an open cab truck. I expect to have this gem on display in parades and truck shows in 2011 and beyond.
